Hi I’m Ken Poirier a resident and realtor serving the Punta Gorda FL real estate market. Realtors are expected to be knowledgeable in many areas related to the local community. One thing I’m universally asked is where can we find a good place to eat which leads to my question, what’s your favorite food and so on.
Well I decided why not write about my favorite restaurants, not as a food critic, because I’m not, but about local establishments I enjoy going to and consistently experience quality many levels. Over the next few months I will share my favorite restaurants in the beautiful city of Punta Gorda. With Italian cuisine often topping the charts as Americans favorite style of cooking/food I thought it made sense to start with Spazzi Italian Grill in downtown Punta Gorda. Located directly across from the new parking garage you’re always assured a convenient parking spot.
Stepping into Spazzi you’re immediately welcomed by the wonderful aroma and feel as if you’ve just stepped into a local trattoria in Italy. The atmosphere is warm and casual, but still offering more intimate seating in a few spots for those looking for a more romantic setting. Much of the kitchen is open with the Italian brick oven prominently on display. The kitchen is vibrant with activity but like the rest of the restaurant it is clean and organized.
I am a fan of brick oven pizzas made in traditional Napoletana style or what we would consider a New York thin crust. Tonight I have ordered a simple Margherita pizza of tomato, cheese and fresh basil, along with another old world favorite “Sicilian rice ball” which is risotto rice, peas, onions coated in seasoned bread crumbs then lightly fried served with Bolognese sauce on the side. You won’t believe this but the rice ball cost just $4.95. My wife Judy had Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and broccoli. Tonight like any other at Spazzi’s we find whatever we order our dinners to be delicious and satisfying. A couple other favorites of ours is eggplant rollatini and Spazzi Seafood delight teaming with scallops, shrimp, lobster, mussels and clams in a well seasoned marinara sauce.
Spazzi is family owned and is reflected by the warm courteous service we’ve always experienced. Meals are as they should be, cooked to order and not fast food. Overall the value at Spazzi Italian Grill is outstanding, offering something for any budget. Located in Historic downtown Punta Gorda the classic Italian restaurant is a great place to sit back and relax while enjoying old world Italian cooking, atmosphere and service. Spazzi's Italian Grill
