As a Realtor I’m often asked what’s so great about Punta Gorda and there is no shortage of things to point out that make this city such as special place. The other day I saw in the Charlotte Sun newspaper a quarter page ad announcing the Third Annual “BARSTOOL OPEN” and I believe, on every level, this is a great example of the heart and soul of Punta Gorda and it’s community.
The driving force behind the “BARSTOOL OPEN” is a number of beautiful, local women who every other Tuesday night get together for networking and socializing. Well, this group of awesome women who call themselves GNO - short for “Girls Night Out” wanted to make a difference within the community. Mind you, they’re not a leisurely women’s social, but are comprised of successful women who run either their own company’s or hold management positions in local business.
Wanting to lending a helping hand to charitable organizations within the community, the GNO women with focus and determination started the journey leading to the very successful “BARSTOOL OPEN”.
Peace River Distributing has returned this year as main sponsor with the GNO girls handling the organization and coordinating of this event with the help of many generous companies in the area. This year’s 9 hole miniature golf event is being hosted by the following local restaurants: Ice House Pub, River City Grill, Biehl’s Slip-Not Lounge, Phil’s 41, Beef O’Brady’s, Tapas One at Bin 82, Dean’s South of the Border, Jack’s and The Celtic Ray.
The field is comprised of teams of 4 people with putters and the event is capped at 100 teams with an entry price of $100. Last years the “BARSTOOL OPEN” raised over $14,000 for Dollars for Mammograms, Inc., enabling more than 300 women in the Charlotte County area access to medical service which otherwise would be out of reach.
So for me I don’t think there is a better example of what Punta Gorda is all about than the “BARSTOOL OPEN”.
