Ponce de Leon Park is a value added attraction to Punta Gorda Isles Real Estate

Thursday, 14 January 2010 00:00 Written by Administrator

Sunset at Ponce de Leon ParkOf all the parks near Punta Gorda Isles, Ponce de Leon Park has perhaps the most intriguing history. Named after Juan Ponce de Leon, the Spanish explorer who came to Florida seeking the Fountain of Youth, the park itself marks the location where he was injured by the Calusa Indians as they resisted his attempt to claim their land. We have Ponce de Leon to thank for the discovery of Florida, and the park named for him is one of the best things about living in Punta Gorda Isles.

Punta Gorda is a small town with a population of approximately 16,000. The mild climate allows ample opportunity for outdoor activities. The Punta Gorda Isles real estate market is appreciating, and ripe with opportunity for purchasing beautiful property, whether for full-time living, vacation homes, or investment properties. There are many waterfront properties in Punta Gorda, where residents enjoy beautiful scenery year-round but the waterfront homes in Punta Gorda Isles should rank at the top of the list.

Ponce de Leon Park adds a special touch to the natural beauty of Punta Gorda. Located on 10 acres on Charlotte Harbor and the Ponce de Leon Inlet, the park is at the end of the broad point that is Punta Gorda Isles. It is well-situated for boating and fishing with special features of that include: boat ramps and boat trailer parking; fishing piers; a beautiful beach; educational signage; and playgrounds, picnic tables, and restrooms. Ponce de Leon Park is only four miles from downtown and three miles from Fishermen's Village making it a perfect location for hiking, biking, family picnics, and wedding ceremonies.

Mapped location of Ponce de Leon ParkThe park is also home to the Peace River Wildlife Center, a nonprofit wildlife hospital. PRWC provides medical treatment, rehabilitation, and shelter for animals in need. Visitors may participate in educational presentations about local wildlife, or take a tour of the facilities. Staffed entirely by volunteers, PRWC lends a generous and giving spirit to the town of Punta Gorda.

The fascinating history and beautiful setting combine to add immeasurable value to life in Punta Gorda.
